Alright here we go. GeoJellies 4 will officially start……..NOW!
This is the group for fourth running of the GeoJellies, and the third edition of the small beans.
Coins will be $6 a piece. Coins will be minted in your choice of black nickel or shiny nickel finish, with the exception of 2 coins. These 2 coins will be minted in a gold finish. Of the 2 gold coins, 1 will be placed a group auction which will benefit the children of pennstategirl who we lost in a tragic car accident. We will use a modified artwork from the first three coin mintings. We will have a separate icon from the first version of this coin. This icon will change in color and have a number 4 added to it. Minimum order will be 22 coins. No mixing of metals under 20 coins (2 are gold). There will be a flat charge of $8 per order for Domestic orders for shipping. International orders will be per order basis with me. Colors and flavors are first come first served. Since the coins are your PMS code and has a different caching name, I have no issues with using a flavor that was used before. I do not check for duplicate flavors or colors. What you submit is what you get. Cost has been based on 1,000 coins. If we do not reach this point, I will revisit the mint for costs on a smaller run and adjust pricing. This will be done BEFORE anyone pays anything so you can make an informed decision. Feel free to let your friends know about this coin project, and I will send an invite to them.
As with the previous versions, ALL COMMUNICATIONS WILL BE DONE THROUGH THE GROUP PAGE OR EMAIL. That means I will not be coming here to answer specific questions about the coins. There is enough clutter on the boards than to add to it with a side project. We have a group that has worked well in the past to handle everything that may arise.
In the past I have asked people to first fill out the cross reference database the moment they join. It helps us, the MODS, to answer specific questions and make changes, as well as match up orders. 98% of people do this without any issues, but sadly there is always a couple stragglers that we can’t figure out who they are. To remedy this, I will try to stay current with memberships and check the cross reference database, Anyone not listed there will be deleted. You could rejoin of course, but you will have to fill the database out at that point. Please do your part to make it easier on us.
Most of all let’s have some fun. This has been by far the largest and most successful group project we have ever seen here. Let’s keep it going. To start this off, you need to email me with your caching name and the email address you use to join Yahoo groups. Please use pghlooking@gmail.com and the subject “GeoJellies 4 Invite Request”.
As most of you know, we are headed to GWVIII and I wanted SQRT to have a PT made for the event. Well I had posted on the Pathtags.com forums about wanting a new pathtag, but all I had was a picture in my head. After typing what I had in my mind, within hours I had a proof of my pathtag. I hadn’t even talked about money yet and already had a design.
Even after changing my PT to a completely different design, they were very grateful in changing it and I still hadn’t even paid.
We worked together for a short time and THEN paid for my design and now Pathtags.com has the blue print and it’s almost ready for minting.
So, if you are looking for some help with Pathtags or coins, or just about any other sig item, check out….
So you are interested in having your own Pathtag Designed! Well we are here to help you! We are a husband and wife team that is very dedicated in what we do!
To me this can be fixed by teaching the person who wrote this to learn to read the cache page. Isn’t this the reason why they have the ratings at the top of the page?
Sunny and Sandy of the PodCacher Podcast told about this out in Nevada. If you are really on a power run, check out these. Let me know what you feel about them. Leave a comment on the bottom of this post.
Geocaching.com has added some great things to their site this week. Check out the new video.
Also, see what they are up to in celebrating 10 Years of Geocaching!! Keep an eye out for a Birthday Party coming close to you soon!!!
Although this isn’t Caching related, I thought most of you would benefit from it.
If you are like me, you have gotten those emails saying to watch out for this and that, and most are untrue. Well I get to start one that is true because it happened to me at work.
We had a customer come into the Advance store today and put two car floor mats on the counter. He handed me a $100 bill. Now we have the pens that tell you if the bill is fake or not, and I had heard that someone had been taking $5 bills and turning them into $100. Well, I took a good look at the strip in the bill and it read “FIVE”. It was a counterfeit bill. On the reverse side you could make out the outline of the “5″ and the watermark was of Lincoln.
Well, after calling the police, the customer paid with another $100 bill that was real. We told him that the police were coming to get his statement. He didn’t want to do that, so he proceeded to leave the store, put the floor mats in the car, and left.
We got the license plate number and gave it to the police.
So, be leery of anyone giving you any $100’s. They may be fake.
Well, just as I expected, Groundspeak really doesn’t know what cache is number 1,000,000. In the newsletter they send out, this is what they had to say about the occasion.
Over 1 Million Active Geocaches Worldwide!
On Monday, March 8, the number of active geocaches listed on Geocaching.com exceeded the million-cache mark. Congratulations to the geocaching community on this major milestone and thank you for all you have done to create such a wonderful, widespread activity in less than 10 years!
This is not the millionth cache ever hidden, since caches have been archived over the years, but the millionth active cache listing. There is no way to pinpoint who owns the cache, since every time a cache is archived, this changes. Therefore, if you hid a cache on the 8th, the millionth might have been yours at some point during the day!
Here are some interesting facts that show how quickly geocaching has grown in the last couple of years:
We hit 500,000 active caches on 12/31/2007
Geocaching.com had 531,000 active caches listed as of 3/3/2008
There were 741,000 active caches as of 3/3/2009
Read the official Press Release that we sent to commemorate this occasion.
Over the past weekend, Groundspeak was having some problems with their server that sends out PQ’s. Well that didn’t sit well with geocachers, so Jeremy came out with an apology. And with that apology, he announced that PQ’s are going from 500 caches per to 1000 caches per.
