Considering the name of the cache, as we approached in the geomobile I figured it was going to be something magnetic stuck to the ice machine outside. When I stopped in front of the establishment the GPSr said there was 165′ more to go. So much for that idea. I went inside to buy a cold drink and my wife went in search of the cache.
I walked inside and the proprietor was on the phone reading bible verses to someone (it was Sunday morning after all.) She said hello and I went to the drink coolers and pulled out Diet Sprite. As I headed towards the counter she started to wrap up her conversation, I stopped her from hanging up. I had opened my wallet up and noticed that it was empty, I forgot that I had spent the last 6 dollars earlier in the day at Atlanta Bread Company for our breakfast. She looked at me questionably when I told her not to hang up and I explained that I didn’t have any money and showed her the empty wallet. I started back towards the cooler with the drink, and she stopped me. She said, “Keep it. It’s hot outside, I can’t deny you a cold drink. It’s only a dollar, it’s not going to kill me and if it does, so be it.” I thanked her and left the store figuring my wife must have found the cache by then.
She was sitting on a retaining wall with a look that I recognized as defeat. I told her my story, we drank our cold Diet Sprite with gratitude and when we were finished, started the search anew. A couple minutes later she made the find. TFTC
Next Sunday at around the same time we plan on stopping back at that store and buying another cold Diet Sprite and paying two dollars for it.

WOW! No….Double WOW! What a story here! Me and Leroy(R-Photo) were literally on our way to “Cache-The Beginning” when my BB went off with a new cache published. Ummm… 23 miles from my home co-ords! Pulled over to the side of Columbia Rd. to get the cache info on Trimble. Unbelievable, the cache was on the same trail! Gathered all of the info on the cache page then decided we would make a decision when we arrived at the parking Co-ords. Made a quick find on “The beginning” then asked Leroy, wanna’ give it a try? He said, well it’s only .4 miles and I might as well wear out this knee since I’m gettin’ a new one soon! So, off we go! Found some pretty easy trails on the way in but lost them somehow so the “bushwaching” began. Still, not that bad! Finally got within 97 feet of GZ, then the difficulty kicked in! Three swampy creeks to cross! Ummmmm the first one was just out of “leaping range”. Left my BB, Wallet and Keys beside the creek then grabbed a fallen log which helped a little. Made the leap with only my docksides and socks getting wet! Not so lucky on the next two! My second and third “leap” left me submerged thigh high! At that point, with only 40 feet to the cache no way I was I gonna’ quit! Made the grab…and ….as they say it is truly hanging “Out On A Limb”! SL …….then……how do I get out of here? Crossed the same creeks, fell in again on each one and finally made it back to the first one…….exausted! (See uploaded image). Luckily, with soggy wet jeans, shoes, socks I found a better trail out only to find David Jr. with a big smile on his face waiting at the GeoTahoe! Let me say this! I thought my 9.5 mile hike to The Alabama Delorme final was tough but this one is definately a close second!
Never thought I would ever get a FTF on a difficult, and I mean difficult, Pilgrims hide! Seems they tend to give you an inch……..then require a mile! I guess in Geocaching some might say “One man’s “fun” is another man’s “Torture”!
I will definately keep this one on my watcch list! Can’t wait to see the logs of who ventures here next! Hopefully they will find a quicker way in…………if so……..I’d love to know how!
In closing, let me give the next cacher two tidbits of advise! 1st. Follow everything exactly as written on the cache page. Especially, don’t go in alone! 2nd…………..bring a bridge! TFTFSL…………….Hoots!
Last creek on my way out!

Made this hide my daily cache after work. I can remember my boyhood days as first a Cub Scout, Boy Scout then instead of becoming an Explorer, I chose the “Sea Explorers” AKA “SeaScouts. Back then the troup met at The Naval Reserve Unit on Central Ave. We all came dressed in the white Navy “Bellbottom” uniforms and studied everything from First Aid to Seamanship. However, the absolute best part of this program was our summer visits to The Charleston Naval Base where we actually cruised with training missions on a Navy Mine Sweeper. So many tours of other ships stationed there made it a wonderful experience. There is no question, The Boy Scouts of America Organization is the best training for building skills and character of anything I can remember. I hope there is a Merit Badge for Geocaching! If not, there certainly needs to be one! Thanks for the series! SL………….Hoots!

Well we started this cache on June 22cd. The son found the first stage and I couldn’t figure out how to get the numbers into the GPS. So we went back today and retrieved the numbers AGAIN and set out walking toward the cache symbol. First thing we noticed was the beheaded scarecrow….hehehe. The kids were freaked out by it. The son saw what he thought might be it but didn’t judge the jump well enough and fell quite a ways….hehehe. He’s fine. Just scratched. So we look and look and the Mr. thinks he knows where it is so he goes back there and doesn’t see anything but that doesn’t deter him from thinking it’s there. So I grabbed some small trees and heaved my fat body up that hill only to look for a few seconds and fell backwards off the little edge on the other side of the tree from hell. Luckily the two little trees were still rooted and saved me before I rolled over backwards into the ditch, I guess you could call it. Just call me Grace! So we look and look some more and I finally get hold of the GPS and get it closer than the Mr. did, of course….hehehe. He tried to slit his wrist on the fence. The daughter wasn’t having any of it and was looking at the beheaded scarecrow. I finally turned around and caught it in just the right angle. That sucker is very well blended in to the environment. Traded some stuff and tried hide it just as well as it was when we found it. I also have to say I broke the swing down behind one of the business’ in that area. The rope is dry rotted. Yeah I know…..excuses, excuses, excuses. Obviously I didn’t mean to but it looked so inviting and I haven’t been on a swing like that in a very long time. Anyway, I had to fess up about the swing. Should I go let the owners know? Would be the right thing to do. Soooooo, thanks for the crazy hunt and the smilie! Enjoyed it!

Reaper, the lil Byrds and I decided to grab a couple of caches this evening. Let me start by saying Happy Anniversary!!! And let me just say, you guys are PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER!!!! Now…..
This was going to be our last stop of the night. We had just grabbed the Ice cache nearby, and this was the last one on my list. Let me just say….I made sure to check the attributes, and it didn’t say anything about it not being available at night, so we went for it!! We drove down the little road towards GZ, and upon arriving in the cul-de-sac, Reaper hopped out and started hunting for the cache. He wasn’t having any luck, so I hopped out and started looking too. We really weren’t having any luck, as it was quite dark (at least that’s our excuse), so we gave a call to Rednekhilbly. He gave us a gentle nudge, and doggone it, I had just about fallen over it!! I finally made the grab and as I got back to the truck, we noticed two sets of headlights heading our way. Hmmmmm….this late, who could they be? Well, it was Harlem’s finest. Someone had called about a suspicious vehicle at the end of their road with a couple of suspicious people lurking about with flashlights!!! Holy crap, Batman. They ran my plates, checked my license, and asked what we were doing there. We began explaining geocaching to the younger fellow, and he looked at us like we were nuts!! Then the lady officer came up, and thankfully, she had heard of geocaching. About that time, I hear the young one’s radio sound off stating the plate was registered to me, describing the vehicle registered, then giving my name and description, then saying that the “Owner was negative on a 29″. I think that was the number, and I think that meant I was negative for any warrants…..LOL. WHEW!!!! Anyways, I got the log signed while the officers waited and chatted a bit. I replaced the cache and we headed back to the truck.
Reaper then gave Tom a call back. He invited us around for a visit and let us know that the OWNERS lived right up that street!!!
HMMMMMMM……….I wonder if THEY were the ones who REPORTED the suspicious vehicle??????????????? Sounds fishy to me!!! Just kidding!! I then gave the owners a call and let them know we appreciated the “Warm Welcome” to their neighborhood!!!! And of course, they just LAUGHED!! Thanks for the fun and interesting cache!!!

WOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!! This one was number 300 for us. The location is awesome, and the house is super cool. As usual, the crack head road routing on the GPS was insane, but luckily, Mrs. Dazd grew up here, and knew where the place was. We roll up in the afternoon, and it is blazing hot, and crazy humid. (Big shocker in GA, huh?)
So, this is #5 on the day, and we are all hot and tired. We hop out of the car, and start looking the place over. The Mrs. wants to snap pics, but the kids and I are on the mission. She realizes that if she wants to see the cache with us, she better come along. Pics can wait. We approach GZ, and note the terrain in the area, and agree with the snake warning on the posting. We cautiously start the hunt at GZ, and the Mrs. points to where she thinks it is. Seeing that the cache was a regular, I disagree, but she is correct. She extracts the cache, we sign the log, the kids trade some swag, and we replace the cache. At this point the wife and kids explore the house, and I walk about outside. (Big phobia of wasps and other flying creepy crawlies.
) As we are starting to leave, another car arrives at the gate, and the driver hops out with a Garmin Rhino in hand. I ask the obvious question: “You guys are looking for something here, huh?” and chuckle. He replies, “Yes, but I forgot to load the coords.”
I say, “It’s ok. We just found it. I’ll get you close,” and walk to the area of GZ with him and both of our families. About 30 feet out, I point in the general direction, and tell him it’s within about 30 feet. He quickly makes the find, and extracts the cache as well. In talking to him, we discover that this is their family’s 3rd find, and that they haven’t even created their log in name yet.
We have them grab our sig item out of the cache, and they give us one of what will be theirs, and tell them to look us up when they log in. All in all, a great location, and another awesome adventure for a milestone cache. THANKS AGAIN PP, for another outstanding cache!

Whew, what a morning! I had just pulled into the driveway after have a Huddle House breakfast with objuan when the ECAS sounded the alert. Perfect! I’m dressed, I’ve eaten and there is enough gas in the geomobile. All I need to do is grab the coords and etrex and maybe change my shoes and I’m off! Well, I couldn’t get connected to the internet…tried again, not able to connect….and again, nothing! Ok, send a text to get coords. Immediate text response, “We are unable to complete your request…”. Tried again, maybe I entered the wrong GC code. Still, nothing! Last ditch effort, reboot the computer. Jackpot! Checked out the listings, downloaded into gpsr and out to the geomobile after changing my shoes. Ooh! almost 30min to get there! My hopes of FTF were fading fast. Drove the geomobile within a few hundred feet, only to see nothing but chainlink fence and no place to park or enter! I’m not familiar with the area so don’t know where entrance to park is located. My only chance now is to wander around, hopelessly directionally challenged and hopefully stumble upon an entrance. Well, it happened! Found 1 vehicle already in parking area, marked the waypoint of my car and hit the trails. Friday is still a work day for many, so I may still make FTF. I meandered the trails for ~.5mi and quickly spotted the cache and evidence that someone had already been there. Could have been the CO…I didn’t see/hear anyone else out there coming or going. Could it be? Did I make it? I open the container and then the logbook. Someone had signed the log for 7/8 with no mention of FTF. Perhaps a friend or family member that was with CO during placement so forgoing FTF honor?! I signed the log and carefully replaced as found and on to the next, only .11mi away. Boy am I glad that for once I marked the waypoint of my car ‘cuz I don’t think I would have found my way back! I see now while logging that FTF has been claimed, so considering my tribulations STF is feeling pretty good!TFTF!

Well…. Based on the description, we weren’t sure what this was going to entail. This was well into an 11 cache run through Augusta. We had just gotten “Go to Jail”, and knew this one was nearby. We parked on a gravel area near the cache, and by the fence. Word to the wise, find elsewhere to park. More on this later. We hop out, and close in on GZ. Both of us see the container, and overlook it. I even reached a finger past it, looking for a nano. We’re in the area for 10-15 minutes, when an older gentleman, wearing a badge, pistol and radio approaches us, asking about our truck. We start the “hide and seek” thing, and he says, “I’ll give you a hand.” He walks over, and grabs the container, and tosses it to me, smiling. The wife is like “You knew about it….”, and I said, “I’m betting we aren’t the first he’s seen here.” LOLOLOL That container is AWESOME! After we signed, he asked us to move along, and left. As we were pulling out, several of his counterparts pulled in in several sedans. All of the guys hopping out of the cars had tactical vests, lots of guns, and a definite “no-nonsense” look about them. As we turned toward our next cache, they drag a guy in cuffs out of one of the cars. (Looked like a fine, upstanding gentleman to me. Clothes falling off him, hair in dread locks half down his back, the whole deal….) We turned back to the GPS, and left the area. Thanks for the hide. It was a fun adventure, all in all.

Found with objuan on a long overdue cache run from North Augusta to Greenwood. Prior to departure, I noticed that my ‘caching’ shoes were looking pretty rough. Objuan had prepared the query for today and since we had planned to eat at Cracker Barrel before caching, I asked about the terrain ratings for our day. He assured me that most of our quest contained urban caches, so I decided to go with my new shoes which were better suited to public dining.
Having read the listing, we were prepared for a challenging search. When we arrived at the general location, I was a bit trepidacious. Although pretty secluded from watchful eyes, I’m always leery of lurking around near/touching this type of equipment. We forged on and began our search with me primarily looking for anything out of place. We had pretty much covered a 20′ area, so objuan sent me out into the open with the gpsr to see where the coords brought me. I ended up really close to where he was so we checked things out once again and were ready to cry “uncle”, when objuan came up with the cache and I noticed that I had stepped in a large fresh gooey wad of chewing gum – not once, but twice!!! Did I mention that I was wearing my new shoes? Objuan signed the log while I attempted to pack the bottom of my shoe with dirt. I replaced the cache and as we prepared to leave, I remembered that I had a plastic produce bag stuffed into the cupholder in the back seat of the car. Objuan had questioned why I had it and made much fun of the fact that I had kept it rather than allow him to throw it away while we were cleaning out the car. Looks like I created a use for it here! I proceeded to place the bag around my fouled shoe to prevent getting gum on the floormat of the car! This was our fourth stop of the day and if memory serves me correctly, I think the bag remained until about our 18th find when objuan couldn’t stand it anymore – I had gotten a rock stuck in the gum and was unable to scrape it off on the pavement. He took my shoe in front/back of Centennial Hall at Lander University and proceeded to scrape out the gum using a tool on his Leatherman. So, if anyone reading this saw someone lurking around light posts and guardrails in Greenwood with a plastic bag over her shoe…it was likely ME…and if the person that discarded their gum near gz of this cache is reading this, please consider my plight, have a good laugh and forever use a trash can! Nice hide. TFTC!
