One of the things we want to do on our new site is have a Member Profile area. Here we will profile different members so everyone can get a chance to meet the group. So the question was, “Who goes first?” Well after we heard about Inkahoots finding his 3000th cache, we thought having him go first would be a cool way to honor that accomplishment.
The general format is that we email each geocacher a set of questions and then provide their answers here. If there are any questions that you think we should ask, please let us know.

What is your Geocaching Name?
Inkahoots
How did you come up with your Geocaching name?
Back in the 80’s I sang the baritone part in a Barbershop Quartet. We had several names over the years. I always thought “Inkahoots” would be a great name for the quartet but that never happened so I’ve used that name for my boat and several other screen names.. Somehow along the way, I was nicknamed “Hoots” and have used that as a logo.
Your current occupation?
Pharmacist
Where do you live?
Augusta, Georgia
What do you use for a GPS?
Garmin Oregon 400t , Garmin StreetPilot 2610, Garmin GPS76CSx
How long have you been geocaching?
Since 2003…. but stopped caching for three years before getting back into the hobby in 2006
How did you get started in geocaching?
Back in 2003 I received a Garmin Etrex Vista handheld GPS as a gift. At that time, I was planning to purchase a boat to cruise the Intracoastal Waterways. Knowing the boat would use GPS technology, I began Geocaching to learn how to use a GPS. After a few finds, the Etrex was stolen from my car. By then, I had enough experience and stopped caching. When I retired in 2006 I purchased another handheld (the GPS76) and used it on the boat and for my return to Geocaching. Being retired does give me much more time to enjoy our great hobby!
Why do you like geocaching?
I guess I’d have to say the best thing about Geocaching is the people involved! Not only our local group, which I consider “family”, but also those I’ve met along the way. Geocachers are just super people! Secondly, caching allows me to get exercise in a way much more exciting than simply walking. I also enjoy the challenge! From a simple puzzle cache to the State Delorme Challenges I’ve completed, there’s always a new hill to climb in Geocaching. Lastly, I enjoy creating unique hides and enjoying the comments posted on the logs by other cachers who make the find! Of all the hobbies I have had in my life, and they are many, Geocaching has been the most enjoyable and rewarding!
Any favorite memory or cache (found or hidden) you would like to share?
This is probably to hardest question to answer. Though the years I have found so many awesome hides, many right here in the CSRA! I guess the one cache I’d consider most impressive would be VIEW CARRE’ (GCE02C) located in New Orleans. The coords bring you to the entrance of a skyscraper in the business district. You are then instructed to ask the receptionist to see the Geocache. She picks up a phone and says “I have a code 6!” You are then met by one of the maintenance people and taken up a service elevator to the top of the building. There, you encounter the largest cache container I have ever seen, at least 6 ft by 4 ft slam full of neat trade swag and trackables. The walls are decorated with Geocaching memorabilia and a collection of framed Geocoins. After signing the log, you are escorted outside onto the roof of the building where you enjoy the most awesome view of The Mississippi River, New Orleans and The Gulf of Mexico. To date, this cache has had over 1400 visits logged, over 500 images posted and contains 30 trackables!
As far as my hides are concerned, I guess I’d have to choose “The Condos” (GC1A72H). This one took me over two months to construct and has had more compliments and accolades than any of the other caches I have placed.
Thanks Inkahoots and keep up the great geocaching.
